There are many coronavirus patients in Jordan who need to be put on ventilators at the Intensive Care Unit(ICU), said the spokesperson for the National Committee for Epidemics, Nathir Obaidat, on Sunday.

In addition, Jordan has been witnessing a huge rise in the number of positive cases in the past few weeks, which led to an increase in the number of COVID-19 patients who require treatment at hospitals, Obaidat said during an interview with radio station Amen FM.

However, Obaidat said that the 48-hour total lockdown decision was not enough, noting that there should be other strict health measures that people must adhere to, such as social distancing and wearing masks.

Jordan has reported eight new coronavirus deaths on Sunday morning, bringing the total number of COVID-19 deaths since the beginning of the crisis to 189.
