Hawarat calls for declaring national emergency, autopsies and holding government accountable
The Government's plan on the pandemic is based on political goals rather than scientific facts, said the assistant director general for patient affairs at the King Hussein Cancer Centre(KHCC), Munther Hawarat, on Sunday.
He added that the Jordanian government has been 'impulsive' and the plan has collapsed from day one.
There has been issues with the way the government has been assessing the COVID-19 situation in the Kingdom.
Coronavirus has spread across the Kingdom and that is a 'social crime', he said.
Hawarat called for holding all those responsible accountable.
"Had the government taken the health situation seriously and based on scientific logic, we would not have reached this point of nationwide spread and rising number of deaths," Hawarat also called for announcing a state of national emergency.
The total number of deaths in Jordan is not high but has been witnessing an increase over the past few days, he added.
The increase in the number of deaths should be taken seriously and autopsies must be conducted on all bodies that passed due to COVID-19, as the type of virus in Jordan could be 'more vicious' and we must find out the truth.
We must also find out the reason behind the deaths of younger COVID-19 patients, he added.
He said the healthcare system should put more effort into treating patients, pointing out that healthcare providers should be questioned regarding some coronavirus deaths.
The Ministry of Health announced the number of positive cases being treated in Jordanian hospitals but not the total number of active cases, which he believes is dangerous and the reason why citizens are not taking the virus seriously enough.
