Two shawarma restaurants in Ma’an were closed by the Directorate of Health Affairs on Wednesday, after failing to comply with compulsory health and safety regulations.

A further 10 shawarma restaurants in Ma’an were issued warnings for failing to adhere to regulations, said the Director of Ma'an Health Affairs, Amjad Abu Darwish.

Inspections of restaurants have gotten underway in different areas of Ma’an, to ensure citizen’s health and safety, Abu Darwish added.

The inspections targeted restaurants, shawarma venues, pastry shops, bakeries and supermarkets, he added.

He encouraged people to report venues they believe are not adhering to health and safety protocol.
