The Minister of Transport, Khaled Saif, has stated today that in light of the coronavirus crisis, the yellow taxi will be allowed to operate only to deliver citizens' needs to their homes as of Sunday, April 12 until the conditions are met through the Corporate Control Department and the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC).

This came after an agreement was reached between the Minister of Transport, the Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, the Director-General of the Land Transport Regulatory Authority (LATRA) and the CEO of the TRC during a meeting during which a mechanism was established in this regard.

The service will be activated after a delivery company is licensed and delivery service is added through the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply. An electronic application will be developed for the yellow taxi delivery service just like the other delivery services.

Minister Saif stressed that drivers will be trained to deliver and will not be allowed to work unless they pass an electronic test covering health aspects and delivery skills and make sure that drivers follow preventive and health measures that prevent the spread of the coronavirus. In addition, they will be strictly monitored to ensure that they adhere to all conditions.
