Four arrested for publishing rumors on coronavirus

The public prosecutor has decided today to arrest four people for publishing rumors and fake news on coronavirus.

Following the cybercrimes law and based on Article 132/1 of the Penal Code, the arrested were accused of publishing fake news that would panic people.

Based on the Article, the accused may have to pay a fine of JD50 and imprisoned for not less than six months.

Earlier yesterday, members of the Cybercrime Unit arrested two people after they published rumors and fake news on the virus.

Spokesman for the Public Security Directorate (PSD) confirmed that the arrested were immediately investigated and will be later referred to the public prosecution.

The spokesman confirmed that people who publish fake news will be immediately arrested and the necessary legal actions will be against them, as such news panic the citizens.
