Minister of Water and Irrigation Raed Abu Saud said that the government is seeking to provide all the facilities and necessary conditions to support Jordanian farmers to enable them to contribute significantly to the national development.

The Minister added during a tour of a number of sites and projects implemented by the Jordan Valley Authority in the central Aghwar region, that work is underway to complete the study of raising the capacity of Wadi Shuaib Dam to 1.7 million cubic meters to accommodate flood waters that are repeated year after year, as well as linking the dam with the King Abdullah Canal to benefit from flood waters by providing to the needs of farmers in addition to building an operational building for the management of the dam.

He called on all farmers to adopt agricultural models that would bring economic and material returns to themselves and to the national economy, in order to protect and enable export of agricultural products at good prices, stressing that the Ministry and the Jordan Valley Authority is working to provide all possibilities and support.

The Minister added that the Ministry is working to encourage development projects aimed at impacted the development of the local community, calling for excellence and optimal exploitation of the environment of the Jordan Valley.

He added during the inspection of the rehabilitation and implementation of the Ghor Kebb project funded by a grant from the German Development Bank KFW for 18 million dinars that the project will provide a great service to agriculture.

The minister inspected some of the farms that have been exposed to the recent floods due to heavy rainfall and called on the Jordan Valley Authority to coordinate with the concerned municipalities to dig trenches to drain rainwater in the rainy season to reduce the risk of floods and inspect the control center of the King Abdullah Canal.
