Investigation into security forces use of tear gas to resolve fight in Amman

Director of Public Security, General Fadel Al-Hamoud, ordered an investigation into the incident of police using tear gas to end a fight that broke out in Amman on Saturday.

A spokesman for the Public Security Directorate (PSD) said in a statement that a fight took place yesterday evening between a number of people in the northern Hashmi region, where tens of people gathered in violation of security and public order during which time a security force used tear gas to disperse the crowd after the participants tried to attack security force which led to the arrest of 11 people.

The spokesman said that the use of tear gas injured a number of people who were taken to the hospital to receive treatment and their condition was well enough to leave the hospital, except for a child who is still under treatment.

The Director of Public Security has ordered an investigation into the incident to find out the details and wether the need of use of force and tear gas was a necessary action.
