Syrian official media denied the reports of airstrikes near Damascus International Airport on Sunday evening, December 9, 2018, after it had initially reported that Syrian defenses had intercepted “enemy arial targets” in the vicinity of the airport.
The state-run Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) later published on its website that “there was no attack on the airport and the air traffic is normal”.
The Syrian Observatory for Human rights, stated however that “Several explosion sounds were heard in Damascus suburbs ... as air defences were launched” close to the airport, adding that the nature of the targets was unclear.
