Jordan might have a large desert landscape, but it is also blessed with plenty of green areas, especially in the northern parts of the country.

Irbid, known as the “Bride of the North,” has the largest cultivated area with fruit trees in the Kingdom, while Tafilah has the smallest cultivated area with fruit trees, according to the Department of Statistics.

In Irbid, 30% of the Governorate’s 232,000 dunum cultivated area is covered with fruit trees, while Tafilah only has a cultivated area of 9,000 dunums, according to statistics released in 2017.

The Department of Statistics said that in 2017, there has been a decrease in the total area planted with fruit trees by 0.4% compared to 2007, with a significant increase in the area planted with date palms, which reached 32,000 dunums in 2017, compared to about 16,000 dunums in 2007.

Meanwhile, the area of rainfed land planted with fruit trees decreased by 4.5%, while the irrigated area decreased by 3.5% compared with 2007.
