An official source at the Jordanian Ministry of Water and Irrigation told Roya on November, 22, 2018, that a joint committee between Jordan and Israel is considering a new project to develop the Jordan Valley and prevent pollution in the Jordan River and the Dead Sea regions.

The source, who asked not to be named, said that the new project will be implemented immediately after the joint committee concludes research and study, adding that the project falls within the framework of the Jordan-Israel Peace Treaty which was signed on October 26, 1994.

The source pointed out that a committee has been formed in order to discuss the development of the Jordan River within the joint regional water committee, and added that the project will be funded by several donors.

The Israeli Ministry of Regional Cooperation said that the project would solve the environmental problems caused by the Degania Dam which had lead to the drying up of the Jordan River.
