Hala Rharrit, the Arabic Language Spokesperson for the United States State Department, has resigned from her post, in what she says is “opposition to the United States’ Gaza policy”.

“I resigned April 2024 after 18 years of distinguished service in opposition to the United States’ Gaza policy,” Rharrit said in a post on her LinkedIn profile.

This marks the third resignation in the US State Department in the aftermath of the “Israeli” aggression against the Gaza Strip and the subsequent American support - for which the Biden Administration is currently under fire from the American public in addition mounting international criticism.

The deputy State Department spokesperson, when asked about Rharrit’s resignation, said that it is “Ultimately, anybody's decision on whether they want to continue to repeat, remain employed somewhere or not, that is ultimately a decision for them to make.”

“There are channels … through which our workforce can share their points of view when they disagree with a certain policy or a certain action that the US government is taking.”
