GAM begins demolishing 300 abandoned houses, buildings in Amman

The demolition process has begun on 300 abandoned houses and buildings in Amman on Wednesday morning.

The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) said that as well as demolishing houses and buildings that are at risk of falling down, they will be fixing up those that can be saved.

Many of the houses and buildings that GAM will be removing have become unsanitary, causing danger to the residents living nearby.

The abandoned propoerties that don’t need destroying will be cleaned and locked up.

GAM has urged the owners of unused houses and buildings to maintain them properly, should they wish to avoid legal action being taken against them.

The Municipality added that owners of those propoerties will have to bear the costs of their demolition and cleaning.

GAM has additionally called on all citizens to report any abandoned houses and buildings they come across in the city.
