  • Former Iranian Foreign Minister Aliakbar Velayati says the region faces a choice between collective security and collective insecurity.
  • He warns that attempts to bypass Iran in regional energy and transit corridors could make them costly or unstable.

Former Iranian Foreign Minister and adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader Aliakbar Velayati warned that the region faces two possible paths: collective security or collective insecurity.

In a post on X, Velayati described Iran as a strategic link connecting the Persian Gulf, Central Asia, the Caucasus and the Sea of Oman, arguing that its geographical position makes it central to regional energy and transit networks.

He warned that energy and transit corridors designed to bypass Iran would become "too expensive or unstable."

Velayati also argued that ongoing crises across the region, stretching from Gaza to the Red Sea and from Lebanon to Iraq, demonstrate that regional security cannot be addressed in isolation.

He stressed that instability in one part of the region could affect others, calling for a collective approach to regional security.

"Either collective security is achieved, or everyone experiences collective insecurity," Velayati said.

His remarks come amid heightened regional tensions and ongoing diplomatic efforts to address conflicts and security challenges across West Asia.
