  • Trump said that he and 'Israeli' Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agreed to phase out the United States' roughly $4 billion in annual military aid by the end of the year
  • Trump made the remarks as polling stations opened across the US for the midterm elections

US President Donald Trump quipped during Election Day appearance on Fox News that he could move to 'Israel' and become prime minister if the American electorate ever grew weary of him.

Speaking by phone with the hosts of Fox & Friends as voting began across the United States, Trump touted what he described as unprecedented personal standing abroad.

"I was 99% approval rating in Israel; can you believe it?" Trump said. "In fact, if people ever got tired of me in the US, I'll move to Israel and become prime minister. But I'm at 99, I have the highest approval rating of anybody in history."

The remarks came as Trump discussed regional Middle East dynamics, stating that his administration had provided decisive backing against Iran and allied regional groups.

In the same interview, Trump said what he characterized as an agreement with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to wind down America’s annual $4 billion baseline security assistance package to 'Israel' by the end of 2026, claiming 'Israel's' strong economy no longer relies on routine foreign subsidies.

The phone interview was broadcast alongside live coverage of opening polling sites in key battleground states, as voters cast ballots in pivotal Senate and congressional races that ultimately flipped congressional majorities to Democrats.
