American rock musician Bruce Springsteen has endorsed Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan's closely watched election, describing him as a defender of the US Constitution and democracy while sharply criticizing President Donald Trump's administration.
In a statement published Monday, Nov. 2, Springsteen threw his support behind El-Sayed, saying he was a fighter against what he called the "corrupt, lawless, and anti-American leadership currently in the White House."
"That's why I'm in his corner 100%," Springsteen added.
The endorsement comes on the eve of Tuesday's Nov. 3 midterm elections, as El-Sayed faces Republican candidate Mike Rogers in a closely contested race that could have significant implications for control of the US Senate.
Springsteen's intervention comes at a particularly sensitive moment for El-Sayed, whose campaign has faced mounting political attacks and divisions within the Democratic Party over his positions on ‘Israel’ and the assault on Gaza.
El-Sayed, 42, is the son of Egyptian immigrants and a physician specializing in public health. A former director of the Wayne County health department, he won the Democratic nomination in August, narrowly defeating four-term congresswoman Haley Stevens by less than one percentage point. His victory came despite being heavily outspent by establishment-backed opponents and outside political groups.
His campaign has focused on expanding healthcare access, supporting a Medicare for All system, challenging corporate influence in politics and ending US military assistance to ‘Israel’.
Springsteen, 77, has been an outspoken critic of Trump and his administration. Earlier in 2026, he embarked on his Land of Hope and Dreams tour, which he described as a celebration of democracy and freedom amid what he characterized as attacks on American democratic institutions. His endorsement adds a prominent cultural voice to a Senate contest that has become a national test of Democratic unity and the party's direction.
Dr. El-Sayed is a fighter for our American Constitution, he’s a fighter for our American Democracy, and he’s a fighter against the corrupt, lawless, and anti-American leadership currently in the White House. That’s why I’m in his corner 100%. Bruce Springsteen https://t.co/pYNOZt2cdF
