  • The application is used to warn residents about Ukrainian drone attacks.
  • Hackers reportedly exploited the breach to circulate false and misleading information.

Russia’s Emergencies Ministry said Monday that its official mobile application, used to warn residents of Ukrainian drone attacks, had been targeted in a large-scale cyberattack that enabled hackers to circulate false and misleading information.

In a statement published on its official Telegram account, the ministry said the breach had allowed attackers to exploit the application to spread disinformation among users.

Specialized technical teams are working to address the security vulnerability and restore the application to normal and secure operation, the ministry added.

The incident comes amid continued cyber activity linked to the Russia-Ukraine war, with digital infrastructure and warning systems increasingly exposed to attacks that can disrupt emergency communications and cause confusion among civilians.

The ministry did not disclose who was behind the attack or provide further details about its scope.
