  • Canada's largest labor federation, representing more than three million workers, has endorsed a resolution calling on workers to refuse handling weapons and military equipment destined for 'Israel'.
  • The organization also urged the Canadian government to end all direct and indirect arms transfers to 'Israel'.

The Canadian Labour Congress (CLC), which represents more than three million workers across Canada, has voted to support a resolution calling on workers to refuse handling weapons and military equipment destined for 'Israel'.

The resolution was endorsed by the CLC's Canadian Council on October 28, marking a significant step in the Canadian labor movement's campaign against arms shipments to 'Israel'.

In a statement, the federation said it stood in solidarity with Palestinian workers and their families, as well as those advocating for peace, justice and respect for international law.

"Canada has a responsibility to ensure that weapons and military equipment produced here are not used to harm Palestinian civilians or contribute to violations of international humanitarian law," the CLC said.

Alongside the resolution, the federation called on the Canadian government to end all direct and indirect transfers of weapons and military equipment to 'Israel'.

The organization said the labor movement must defend the rights, safety and dignity of workers everywhere, while rejecting all forms of hatred and discrimination, including antisemitism, anti-Palestinian racism and Islamophobia.

The CLC also called on Ottawa to uphold international law, protect civilian lives and support a just and lasting peace for Palestinians and 'Israelis'.

The decision adds to growing pressure from labor organizations for an arms embargo on 'Israel' and greater accountability over military exports.
