Arab Barghouti, son of imprisoned Palestinian leader Marwan Barghouti, addressed Macklemore’s sold-out Free Palestine Tour finale in London.
US rapper Macklemore closed his three-city European benefit tour on Friday with a concert at London’s OVO Arena Wembley.
The event featured performances by artists including Paloma Faith and Nemahsis, along with speeches from climate activist Greta Thunberg, Holocaust survivor Stephen Kapos, and other speakers.
Proceeds supported organizations aiding Palestinians.
Arab Barghouti, campaign director for the International Campaign to Free Marwan Barghouti, spoke to the crowd about his father’s more than two decades of imprisonment and the broader situation of Palestinian political prisoners.
He compared international solidarity efforts to the movement that helped end apartheid in South Africa, stating that “Palestine is heading for our South Africa moment.”

Macklemore performed wearing a “Free Marwan” shirt.
Marwan Barghouti, a senior Fatah figure, has been held in ‘Israeli’ prisons since his 2002 arrest and subsequent 2004 conviction on charges related to operations during the Second Intifada.
He has denied the charges and does not recognize the court’s legitimacy.
Many Palestinians view him as a potential unifying political leader; his family and supporters maintain an ongoing international campaign for his release and that of other prisoners.
The London show followed earlier dates in Dublin and Paris.
Macklemore organized the tour after being dropped from Ed Sheeran’s US Loop Tour in September over his onstage pro-Palestinian comments.
Ahead of the London date, around 50 members of the House of Lords had urged the UK government to block the performance.
