Pro-Palestinian activists have continued to stage weekly solidarity marches in the Japanese city of Kyoto, with Japanese and international demonstrators gathering every Saturday to demand Palestinian freedom and an end to ‘Israel’s’ military assault on Gaza and its ongoing violations across the occupied Palestinian territories.
Participants have taken to the streets waving Palestinian flags, wearing traditional keffiyehs and carrying banners expressing solidarity with Palestinians. Demonstrators have chanted slogans calling for an immediate ceasefire, an end to ‘Israel’s’ siege on Gaza and an end to attacks and violations against Palestinians.
Speeches and leaflets distributed at the march aimed to raise public awareness about Palestine, drawing attention to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and encouraging continued international solidarity.
The weekly mobilizations have become a sustained feature of pro-Palestinian activism in Kyoto since Oct. 2023, reflecting a continued effort by local residents and international supporters to keep attention on Palestine.
The marches are organized by Palestina no Heiwa wo Motomerukai Kyoto, a local citizens' group whose name translates roughly as Kyoto Association for Peace in Palestine. The group has maintained its Saturday demonstrations since Oct. 2023, with earlier estimates indicating that around 150 to 300 people have participated in individual marches.
The campaign reached its 152nd demonstration on Oct. 31, 2026, with participants gathering outside Kyoto City Hall before marching towards Bukkōji Park, passing through the Shijo-Kawaramachi area.
