  • Herzog urged arriving political leaders to approach the talks with an "open mind" and do everything necessary to avoid plunging the country into repeat elections
  • He described the robust voter turnout as a "badge of honor" for society, stating it reflects a powerful commitment to democracy

'Israeli' President Isaac Herzog announced that he will convene formal consultations with representatives of all elected Knesset factions next week to designate a candidate tasked with assembling the next government.

Speaking during a meeting at the President's Residence with participants of the "Switching a Word" initiative, Herzog said that the constitutional process will commence immediately after he officially receives the certified election results from Central Elections Committee Chairman, Supreme Court Justice Noam Sohlberg.

"Next week, I will invite the representatives of the factions to consultations ahead of assigning the mandate to form the next government," Herzog stated, adding that "with the publication of the results, I ask one important thing from everyone who arrives, arrive with an open mind. Everything must be done, certainly after yesterday, not to return to additional elections."

Under 'Israeli' law, following consultations with all elected parties, Herzog assigns the mandate to form a government to the Knesset member assessed to hold the strongest parliamentary backing to assemble a majority coalition of at least 61 seats.
