Serbian police said on Wednesday that an unidentified assailant attacked a guard with knives outside the 'Israeli' embassy in Belgrade and was killed shortly after midnight.
Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dacic said that law enforcement authorities are treating the event as a “terrorist attack.”
Following the incident, officials raised the national terror threat to the highest level and bolstered police deployments across key locations.
Detailing the assault, Dacic stated that “a minor, so far unidentified … shouting Allahu Akbar, attacked the member of Gendarmerie and attacked him with two knives.”
The interior minister added that the police officer sustained light wounds and “liquidated” the attacker in “self-defense.”
This is a developing story.
