- This comes amid escalating ‘Israeli’ settler attacks on the West Bank.
‘Israeli’ settlers attacked the Palestinian village of Umm Safa in the occupied West Bank and set three vehicles on fire, Roya’s correspondent reported on Tuesday.
Umm Safa has faced recurring settler incursions, intimidation and restrictions on residents’ movement. On Oct. 25, the Palestinian news agency WAFA reported that settlers entered the village’s eastern area in vehicles, gathered near the home of resident Mohammad Obaiyat and obstructed his family’s movement, while attempting to assault family members.
According to the village council head, Marwan Sabbah, settlers had established a tent near the house around three months earlier and repeatedly returned to the area, subjecting the family to harassment and verbal abuse. He also reported the arrival of additional mobile homes at a settlement outpost on Jabal al-Ras, indicating an expansion of the outpost.
Medical Aid for Palestinians also reported on Oct. 23 that armed settlers had approached the same resident’s home and allegedly attempted to cut through its gate with metal cutters.
Residents have also stated that they are being prevented from reaching their olive groves, while settlers have harvested or taken olives from Palestinian-owned land.
