Jordanian Prime Minister Jafar Hassan renewed his condolences to the families of the nine martyrs killed in Friday’s terrorist attack on St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church in Hamoud, Karak Governorate, and wished those injured a speedy recovery.
Speaking during a Cabinet session on Sunday, Hassan named the martyrs: Maher Adel Zuraiqat, Ehab Nayef Halsa, Fadi Assem Halsa, Khaled Mikhael Halsa, Assem Amin al-Barqan, Alaa Khalil al-Masrawa, Marwan Khalil Khaitan, Mohammad Yousef Qassous, and Mazen Rasmi Qassous.
‘A battle of awareness and thought’
Hassan said extremism, hard-line ideology, and takfiri thought had spread over the past four decades, stressing the need to intensify efforts to eradicate them at their roots.
“This is not only a security battle; it is a battle of awareness and thought,” Hassan said, warning that societies and nations collapse when sectarian strife, fanaticism, racism, and extremism spread.
He emphasized that diversity, social cohesion, and openness are essential to intellectual, scientific, cultural, and civilizational progress, describing these values as foundations on which Jordan was established.
Hassan said all state agencies were working to arrest those responsible for the attack and ensure they face the punishment they deserve.
