Jordan's Cabinet commenced its regular session on Sunday with the recitation of Surat Al-Fatiha in honor of the martyrs killed in Friday’s armed attack targeting a church in the southern town of Hmoud, Karak Governorate.

Addressing the session, Prime Minister Jafar Hassan renewed the government's official condolences to the families of the victims and the local community in Karak, wishing the wounded receiving medical treatment a full and speedy recovery.

Hassan officially named the nine individuals who lost their lives in the assault: Dr. Maher Al-Zureiqat, Ihab Nayef Al-Halsa, Dr. Fadi Assem Halsa, Dr. Khaled Mikhail Halsa, Dr. Assem Amin Barqan, Alaa Khalil Al-Masarweh, Marwan Al-Khitan, Dr. Mohammad Al-Qsous, and Mazen Rasmi Al-Qusus.

Discussing the context surrounding the attack, the Prime Minister stated that the country has confronted "extremist, rigid, and takfiri ideologies" over recent decades, emphasizing that state policy remains focused on eradicating radical thought.

He stressed that extremist elements have no place within Jordanian society, pointing to continuous state efforts over the past decade to counter takfiri groups.

Hassan remarked that confronting extremism extends beyond security measures to encompass intellectual and public awareness, warning that communities falter when division, tribalism, racism, and radicalization take root. He emphasized that Jordan's model has historically relied on diversity, cohesion, and openness as foundations for social and cultural development under the Hashemite leadership.

Concluding his remarks, the Prime Minister affirmed that all relevant state institutions and security agencies are actively working to locate and apprehend those responsible for the attack to ensure they face legal prosecution.
