- The French government announced a heavily bolstered and more agile security deployment for upcoming demonstrations
French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu accused far-left groups of preparing an "insurrection plan" targeting key government institutions, speaking during a parliamentary question-and-answer session at the National Assembly on Tuesday.
Addressing lawmakers following Saturday's cost-of-living protests, Lecornu emphasized that authority would be strictly maintained.
"We will not allow small insurgent groups to march on the Élysée Palace or Matignon," he stated, referencing the official residences of the French Presidency and the Prime Minister.
Stating that the police deployment on October 17 "was not mobile enough," Lecornu announced that security forces will maintain a significantly intensified presence for the next round of demonstrations scheduled for Saturday.
Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez echoed the Prime Minister's statements, confirming that law enforcement tactics and intervention methods are being re-evaluated.
