- Pakistani forces clashed with Afghan Taliban personnel in the Taida sector of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
- Pakistan cited unprovoked Afghan firing meant to facilitate militant cross-border infiltration as the trigger for retaliation.
- The clash follows months of cross-border skirmishes and previous Pakistani airstrikes targeting militant havens inside Afghanistan.
Pakistani troops killed several Afghan Taliban personnel and completely destroyed a military base camp during a fresh border clash on Saturday, according to security sources, who accused Afghan forces of opening unprovoked fire to facilitate militant infiltration into Pakistan.
The fighting occurred in the Taida sector of Upper Kurram, a district located in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province (Taida Sector, Upper Karam Orghuz Garhi).
"Pakistan Army [gave] full and effective response to Afghan Taliban’s unprovoked firing in Taida Sector, Upper Karam Orghuz Garhi," security officials said on condition of anonymity. "Several Afghan Taliban regime personnel are reportedly killed in Pakistan Army’s retaliatory action."
Heavy exchange of fire
Security officials stated that Pakistani forces targeted both the Taliban’s Topsar border post and the Shipola base camp during the exchange of fire, claiming the Shipola base camp was destroyed completely.
Following the retaliatory strike, Taliban personnel reportedly abandoned a border post while firing continued in the area.
The reported casualties and destruction could not be independently verified, and there was no immediate comment from the Afghan Taliban authorities.
The clash comes amid prolonged tensions between Islamabad and Kabul regarding cross-border militancy.
The two nations have engaged in sporadic clashes since major border skirmishes in October last year, with Pakistan previously executing airstrikes inside Afghanistan while accusing Taliban authorities of harboring militants responsible for attacks on Pakistani soil.
