US actress Selma Blair was arrested at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport on Sunday after allegedly assaulting two flight attendants aboard a Delta Air Lines flight from Los Angeles, according to US authorities.

The 54-year-old actress is accused of physically attacking the crew, injuring two attendants. After landing, she allegedly kicked a police officer escorting her to hospital and a nurse treating her, according to court documents cited by the Associated Press.

Blair pleaded not guilty to two counts of second-degree assault related to the alleged incidents involving the officer and nurse. She also faces separate federal allegations over the in-flight incident.

Her representatives said she experienced a medical emergency. Her lawyer cited missed medication for multiple sclerosis, a head injury and disorientation in explaining her behaviour.

The arrest has brought renewed attention to Blair’s political record. In February 2024, the Cruel Intentions and Legally Blondemstar apologized after making remarks about Islam that prompted widespread condemnation.

Blair had written that Islam had “destroyed Muslim countries” while attacking US lawmakers Rashida Tlaib and Cori Bush over their positions on legislation concerning Hamas. She later said she had mistakenly conflated Muslims with Islamic fundamentalists, calling her comments a serious error and expressing regret for the harm caused.

Blair has publicly declared support for ‘Israel’, saying in a September 2024 video: “I stand with Israel. I stand with the hostages.”
