France summons Iran ambassador over protest claims: AFP

France summoned Iran’s ambassador Wednesday over what the Foreign Ministry called an Iranian “disinformation campaign” concerning student protests in the country.

The summons came as demonstrations by high school students continued across France over education conditions and funding.

Iran has criticized France’s handling of the protests, accusing authorities of using excessive force against demonstrators. Tehran also summoned France’s ambassador Tuesday over what it described as the violent treatment of protesters.

The diplomatic dispute comes amid already strained relations between France and Iran.
