- A Bar-Ilan University mathematics lecturer has been indicted over an alleged plan targeting Arab and Palestinian communities.
- Prosecutors allege the plan involved coordinated attacks intended to cause residents to leave.
- The defendant is also accused of attempting to recruit participants and contacting politician Moshe Feiglin.
A mathematics lecturer at Bar-Ilan University was indicted Monday on charges of preparing a terrorist act, extortion by threats and obstruction of justice, prosecutors announced.
The indictment accuses him of designing a plan to kill Arab citizens of ‘Israel’, Palestinians in East Jerusalem and Palestinians in the West Bank, in order to drive them out of the country.
The defendant, a man in his 60s from Petah Tikva, allegedly began working on the plan in February 2023. Prosecutors say he called it "AIT," Hebrew initials for "the nation will do transfer." It envisioned 72 Jewish attackers in 12 cells striking Arab communities and mixed cities simultaneously, using firearms, axes and hammers. He meant for social media coverage of the attacks to spread fear and trigger a wider departure.
According to the indictment, he tried to enlist Zehut leader Moshe Feiglin, hoping he would help recruit others. He attended two Feiglin events and sought a meeting, but Feiglin never responded.
The defendant then sent Feiglin a letter demanding cooperation and threatening to publish it to damage his public standing ahead of the elections, and left a copy with a neighbor at Feiglin's home. Feiglin said he and Zehut's leadership reported the threats to police.
Bar-Ilan University suspended the lecturer until the proceedings end and said it has zero tolerance for such conduct.
