Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Sunday that the United States has proposed holding a new trilateral meeting with Russia and Ukraine at the technical level by the end of October.

“The American side is currently in contact with Ukraine and Russia and is proposing to somehow hold a meeting at the technical level in a trilateral format by the end of October,” Zelensky told reporters.

Zelensky said Ukraine was ready to support the proposed timeline and was open to holding the meeting in the United Arab Emirates or another country suggested by the United States.

He said Washington was in contact with both Kyiv and Moscow over the proposal, with Russia yet to agree to the meeting.

The proposed meeting would follow two rounds of US-brokered trilateral talks held in Abu Dhabi and another round in Geneva in February.

The talks addressed major issues in the war, including territorial disputes, security guarantees and the future of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.

Prisoner exchanges were also a key humanitarian outcome of the negotiations.

The diplomatic track subsequently lost momentum, with further negotiations delayed amid the wider regional conflict.

If Russia agrees, the proposed late-October meeting would represent a new round of the US-Russia-Ukraine trilateral negotiation format.
