Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said Sunday that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until Iran’s seven conditions under the Islamabad memorandum of understanding with the United States are met.

Ghalibaf said Washington had recently conveyed proposals through a mediator, despite making different statements publicly.

“The position of the Islamic Republic of Iran is completely clear and firm,” Ghalibaf said, according to Iranian state-linked media.

“The Strait of Hormuz will not be opened until our seven conditions based on the Islamabad memorandum are met.”

Iran rejects one-sided demands

Ghalibaf said the United States should understand that the period of “dragging out” negotiations and imposing one-sided demands had ended.

“We base our actions on the enemy’s actual behavior and actions, not on rhetoric and false narratives in the media,” he said.

Strait remains central to talks

Iran has previously presented a proposal under which the Strait could be reopened within seven days if its conditions are met.

The proposal was conveyed to Washington through Qatari mediators, with the United States subsequently sending a response through the same channel.

The June Islamabad memorandum included provisions on ending military operations, removing the US naval blockade, restoring commercial shipping through the Strait, lifting sanctions and releasing Iranian funds, among other measures.
