The United States Coast Guard launched a search and rescue operation on Saturday for an air ambulance carrying six people that disappeared off the eastern coast of the United States while en route from Bermuda to Boston, officials confirmed.

The Coast Guard announced via platform X that multi-asset search teams, including ships and aircraft, are searching for the missing Gulfstream G100 jet off the coast of Nantucket, Massachusetts.

Contact with the aircraft was lost at approximately 1:30 a.m. local time (05:30 GMT), according to statements provided to AFP by Clarence Tougretz, spokesperson for Canada-based operator Latitude Air Ambulance.

Company spokesperson Clarence Tougretz detailed the manifest aboard the missing transport flight during his comments to AFP.

"There were two pilots, two medical staff members, a patient, and an accompanying family member on board," Tougretz stated, adding that no additional information regarding rescue progress was immediately available.

According to data listed on the company's website, Latitude Air Ambulance operates a fleet of 10 aircraft providing medical evacuations and global patient repatriation services.

Search and rescue operations by federal authorities remain ongoing off the Massachusetts coastline.
