  • Ukrainian officials reported Russia's first use of jet-powered drones carrying specialized shaped-charge warheads.
  • Ukrainian authorities previously warned of Russia targeting of key capital bridges.

Two Russian drones struck, the Southern Bridge, a major bridge connecting eastern and western Kyiv on Thursday, disrupting public transit across the Dnipro River amid an escalation in air attacks on the Ukrainian capital, as stated by AFP.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced on Telegram that the drones struck a support structure of the city's South Bridge. "At present, metro services and ground public transportation crossing the bridge have been suspended."

The strike follows warnings from Ukrainian presidential advisor Serhiy Beskrestnov regarding Russia's deployment of jet-powered drones equipped with specialized shaped-charge warheads designed to penetrate reinforced steel structures, AFP said.

"The enemy used a special warhead with a shaped charge on a jet drone for the first time," Beskrestnov reported on social media on Wednesday, stating that such warheads concentrate explosive force forward to pierce and sever structural targets.

He stated that Russian forces may be intending to target critical high-voltage power lines across the country.
