Turkish Süper Lig team Konyaspor and the Palestine national football team contested a historic 2-2 draw in a solidarity friendly on Wednesday at the Konya Metropolitan Municipality Stadium, framed under the motto "Our home is your home."

Supporters filled the stands at the 42,000-capacity venue, transforming the athletic fixture into a large-scale public demonstration of support for the Palestinian people and the population of Gaza.

Konyaspor initiated the scoring early when Melih Ibrahimoğlu found the net in the second minute of play.

The Palestinian national team responded with back-to-back goals from Mohammed Hasn Rajab Sandouqa in the 12th and 25th minutes to take the lead.

Mustafa Muhammed leveled the match for the hosts in the 28th minute, establishing a 2-2 scoreline that held through the final whistle.

Prior to kickoff, Konyaspor supporters displayed a large stadium choreography reading: "You stay silent when children sleep, not when they die."

Banners displayed across the stands highlighted the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, affirming solidarity with Palestinians while condemning 'Israeli' genocidal conduct in the enclave.

In a planned tribute at 10 minutes and 14 seconds into the match, stadium lights were turned off to commemorate the 1,014 members of the Palestinian sports community reported killed in 'Israeli' attacks since October 7, 2023.

Attending supporters threw confetti and toys onto the pitch as part of the memorial.

In an unprecedented closing gesture, the match was brought to an official halt at 89 minutes and 59 seconds following a stadium announcement declaring the fixture "postponed until Palestine is free."

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan issued a statement praising the match as a powerful demonstration of bilateral ties and thanking the city of Konya for hosting the Palestinian delegation.

"The friendly match between Konyaspor and the Palestine national football team in Konya this evening has been an exceptional example demonstrating the brotherhood, solidarity and unity of hearts between our countries," President Erdoğan stated on social media.
Erdoğan noted that the crowd drew global attention to the tragedy and genocide unfolding in Gaza, reaffirming Ankara's commitment to Palestinian rights.

"As Türkiye, we will continue to stand together with our Palestinian and Gazan brothers and sisters, defend their rights on international platforms and demonstrate our solidarity strongly," he added, extending greetings to the Palestinian team and people.
Following the match, Turkish Youth and Sports Minister Osman Aşkın Bak, Konya Governor Ibrahim Akın, and Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur Ibrahim Altay joined local officials on the field to present flowers to members of the Palestinian national team.
