Pro-Palestine activists confronted British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband at a restaurant in Liverpool on Sunday, urging him to lift the government’s ban on Palestine Action as police arrested demonstrators nearby.
The encounter took place during a sit-in outside the Labour Party’s annual conference, where around 200 protesters held signs supporting Palestine Action, Anadolu Agency reported.
“We would like you to de-proscribe Palestine Action. We’d like you to declare genocide in Gaza,” one activist told Miliband at the restaurant.
Another protester urged the foreign secretary to speak to demonstrators as they were being arrested.
Merseyside Police said more than 50 people had been arrested by Sunday evening over suspected offences involving material supporting a proscribed organisation.
Palestine Action was proscribed by the British government in July 2025 under the Terrorism Act. The group has carried out direct actions against companies it says are linked to ‘Israel’.

The protests have been organised by Defend Our Juries, which has campaigned against the government’s decision to proscribe the group.
In February, the High Court ruled that the decision to proscribe Palestine Action was disproportionate and unlawfully interfered with freedom of expression and assembly. The ban remained in force while legal proceedings continued.
