Iceland’s Foreign Minister Thorgerdur Katrin Gunnarsdottir delivered a pointed response to 'Israeli' Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during the UN General Assembly, turning the 'Israeli' leader's own remarks back against him regarding international peace, humanitarian assistance, and global compliance.

Addressing the assembly floor, Gunnarsdottir directly confronted rhetoric used earlier in the session by Netanyahu, who had referred to diplomats participating in mass walkouts as "moral cowards".

"We have heard the words 'moral cowards' from this podium," Foreign Minister Gunnarsdottir stated. "To me, moral cowards are those who refuse to sit down and negotiate just and lasting peace."

Aid restrictions, violations of international law

Expanding on her critique, Gunnarsdottir outlined specific actions that constitute true moral failure on the global stage, explicitly highlighting the denial of humanitarian aid and systemic disrespect for international statutes.

"Those leaders who deny access to humanitarian aid for people in desperate need," Gunnarsdottir continued. "And moral cowards are those leaders of the world who repeatedly go against and disrespect international law."

Concluding her address, the Icelandic foreign minister cautioned world leaders against selective focus, emphasizing that global attention must remain steadfast across all humanitarian emergencies.

"We must not allow the horrors... in the Middle East to make other crises invisible," Gunnarsdottir warned.
