Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez launched a sharp critique on Tuesday against US President Donald Trump following Trump's address to the United Nations General Assembly, in which the US President asserted that the Cuban government "will fall."
In a statement posted on social media platform X, Rodríguez accused Washington of refusing to respect Cuban sovereignty and characterized the ongoing US trade embargo and energy sanctions as severe violations of international law.
"The US government is incapable of accepting that Cuba is and has the right to be a full sovereign and independent country," Rodríguez wrote. "None of the falsehoods by the US President at the UN can deny that fact."
Addressing Washington's economic pressure on Havana, Rodríguez argued that Cuba poses no threat to foreign nations and framed US policy as the primary cause of instability in the region.
"Cuba poses no threat to the US or any country," Rodríguez stated. "The economic blockade, including the energy siege, do threaten Cuba and the rest of nations. It is an act of genocide and collective punishment."
The Cuban Foreign Minister concluded his statement with a plea for peaceful relations, writing, "We are a country of peace and we deserve peace.”
