Deadly West Bank attacks raise tensions ahead of Yom Kippur

Violence escalated across the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem on Sunday, with a Palestinian man killed by 'Israeli' forces near Jenin, an 'Israeli' man killed in a shooting near Neveh Tzuf, and 'Israeli' forces carrying out raids and imposing heightened restrictions ahead of Yom Kippur.

'Israeli' man killed near Neveh Tzuf

An 'Israeli' man in his 30s was fatally wounded in a shooting near Neveh Tzuf, north of Ramallah, according to 'Israeli' authorities.

The man was initially reported in critical condition after being shot near a spring in the Binyamin area. Medical personnel performed CPR before evacuating him by helicopter, but he later died from his wounds.

'Israeli' forces launched a manhunt for the suspected shooter, setting up roadblocks and deploying forces across the area. The 'Israeli' military later said its troops located the suspected Palestinian gunman at a hospital in the Ramallah area and arrested him.

Palestinian killed near Jenin

In the northern West Bank, 'Israeli' forces shot and killed a Palestinian man near the former Ganim settlement site east of Jenin, according to Palestinian and international reports.

The 'Israeli' military claimed the vehicle he was traveling in had attempted to ram soldiers. A second Palestinian in the vehicle was wounded and taken into custody, according to the military. Palestinian sources disputed the account and described the shooting as an attack on civilians.

The incident came amid increased 'Israeli' military activity and restrictions on movement in parts of the Jenin area.

'Israeli' forces tighten restrictions in Jerusalem

Tensions also rose in occupied East Jerusalem as Yom Kippur began Sunday evening.

The Jerusalem Governorate said around 100 'Israeli' settlers entered the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque under 'Israeli' police protection on Sunday morning, with some performing Jewish prayers and rituals at the site.

'Israeli' forces tightened security measures around Jerusalem's Old City and Al-Aqsa Mosque, while access was restricted for Palestinian worshippers.

The developments followed the entry of 'Israeli' Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, several ministers and thousands of 'Israelis' to the Buraq Wall (Western Wall) on Saturday ahead of Yom Kippur.

The latest violence comes amid broader tensions across the West Bank, including 'Israeli' military operations, movement restrictions and attacks by 'Israeli' settlers against Palestinians.

On Sunday, two Palestinians were also injured in a settler attack near Salfit, according to information shared by the Palestinian Red Crescent.
