US President Donald Trump claimed on Truth Social that the United States has finalized a permanent security agreement with the Kingdom of Denmark and Greenland, securing long-term operational control over defense and security needs across the Arctic territory.

Trump stated that the agreement addresses all domestic security concerns while incurring no financial cost to the United States.

"I am pleased to announce that the United States of America has entered into an Agreement with The Kingdom of Denmark, and Greenland, that gives the United States permanent control over security, and all other needs, in Greenland, completely addressing ALL of our many U.S. concerns," Trump wrote. "There will be NO COST to the United States!"

Trump added that the agreement guarantees that the US will maintain the authority to execute defense measures necessary to secure both Greenland and the United States permanently.

US military presence

Under the terms of the agreement outlined by the president, foreign adversaries of the United States are explicitly barred from establishing a footprint in the region without prior consent.

"Additionally, from now on, no U.S. adversary can EVER have a base in Greenland, have a military presence in Greenland, or make sensitive investments in Greenland, without our express written approval," Trump stated.

Characterizing the pact as an "Infinite Life Agreement" without an expiration date, Trump highlighted the historical geopolitical value of the territory, noting that US presidents have recognized Greenland's strategic position for over a century.

Trump confirmed that the United States will proceed immediately to establish a larger military presence on the island.

"We will immediately begin the process of developing a large Military presence in the appropriate part of Greenland, of which there are many," Trump wrote, adding that U.S. authorities will work directly with local communities on future construction and infrastructure development.
