Eleven people were injured following an ammonia gas leak at the industrial complex in Aqaba, according to the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority.

Five people are currently receiving treatment at hospital, while six others were discharged after receiving the necessary medical care.

Nidal Al-Aouran, Commissioner for Environment and Public Safety at the authority, said the leak occurred during maintenance work on an old pump or pressure device.

Authorities activated the emergency response plan and evacuated workers from the site as a precaution.

Roya News correspondent reported that the leak has since been brought under control.
