In an urgent bulletin, state television reported that Algeria had decided to sever diplomatic ties with the UAE after "exhausting all means" to preserve bilateral relations.
Algeria’s Foreign Ministry said the Emirati ambassador was summoned to its headquarters and formally notified of the decision.
The ambassador was given 48 hours to comply with the measure and leave Algerian territory, according to the ministry.
In a statement, the Algerian Foreign Ministry said the government had shown "a great deal of restraint" and "a high sense of responsibility" in response to what it described as increasingly provocative or hostile actions by the UAE.
