A 20-year old Palestinian dentistry student was shot dead and two other residents were wounded on Sunday evening when ‘Israeli’ settlers stormed the village of Hajjah, east of Qalqilya, in the occupied West Bank.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health identified the man killed as Omar Tubasi, a dentistry student at An-Najah National University.
According to local accounts, Tubasi was killed by a gunshot to the head while he was among residents confronting the settlers who had entered the village.
Settlers entered Hajjah on Sunday evening, beating residents and forcing some from their homes, according to witnesses cited by local media.
The Palestinian Red Crescent said its crews treated two people for live-fire wounds: Tubasi, shot in the head, and a second man shot in the chest who was left in critical condition.
A 17-year-old was also shot in the thigh during the same assault. The wounded were taken to a hospital for treatment.
A wider pattern of violence
The killing came amid a broader surge of settler attacks and ‘Israeli’ military raids across the West Bank on the same day.
In the Abu Hamra area, south of Beita near Nablus, several Palestinians were wounded confronting a settler attack.
In Khirbet al-Homs, in Masafer Yatta south of Hebron, settlers released cattle around Palestinian homes.
According to the Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission, ‘Israeli’ forces and settlers carried out roughly 2,030 documented attacks against Palestinians during August alone, about 1,402 attributed to ‘Israeli’ forces and 628 to settlers, concentrated in Nablus, Ramallah and Al-Bireh, Hebron, Bethlehem, Jenin and occupied Jerusalem.
