'Israel' threatens war with Palestinian Authority

• Katz warned the Palestinian Authority against perpetrating an attack similar to Oct. 7.

‘Israel’ threatened a "full-scale war" against the Palestinian Authority on Monday if an Oct. 7-style attack against ‘Israeli’ forces or settlements takes place. 

"If... the Palestinian Authority's security mechanisms and related bodies initiate, or we know with certainty that they are about to initiate, a terror attack in the style of October 7 against IDF forces and Jewish settlements -- Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and I have instructed the IDF to prepare for the opening of a full-scale war," Defence Minister Israel Katz said.

The ultimatum comes as tensions between ‘Israel’ and the Palestinian Authority intensify over security coordination and control in the occupied West Bank. 

‘Israeli’ officials have increasingly questioned the PA’s ability to prevent attacks, while simultaneously expanding settlements, approving measures increasing ‘Israeli’ control over West Bank land, and backing calls from far-right ministers for annexation.

Developments in the West Bank

The developments have further narrowed the PA’s already limited governing authority, as 'Israeli' forces continue raids and arrests across Palestinian cities and towns.

Since the start of 2026, 79 Palestinians, including 19 children, had been killed by 'Israeli' forces or settlers in the West Bank as of Aug. 28, according to the UN. 

Since Oct. 7, 2023, the Palestinian Health Ministry has recorded more than 1,100 Palestinian deaths in the West Bank at the hands of ‘Israeli’ forces. 

Meanwhile, land seizures and settlement expansion have accelerated. 

The UN reported that 24,258 dunams of West Bank land were declared “state land” in 2024 alone, the largest annual declaration since 1998. 

Peace Now estimates that settlers have taken control of more than 100,000 dunams in Areas A and B over the past two and a half years.
