Academy Award-winning actress Susan Sarandon revealed Sunday that she continues to face career retaliation and film cancellations in Hollywood due to her firm stance against ‘Israel’ and her vocal solidarity with Palestine.
Speaking at a press conference at the Venice Film Festival for her latest film, The Echo Chamber, Sarandon discussed what she described as pressure within the US entertainment industry against artists who publicly criticize ‘Israel’s’ actions in Gaza and US support for ‘Israel’.
Sarandon disclosed that talent agencies and industry executives actively attempt to block her from securing acting roles.
"I’ve still had movies taken away recently because there are agencies that are telling people not to hire me still," Sarandon stated. "But that’s the power structure. I think within the people, certainly internationally, I feel welcome."
She noted that while public consciousness regarding Palestine has shifted significantly, entrenched pro-'Israel' networks in Hollywood continue to target dissenting voices.
"I think that the narrative has completely changed in terms of historical relevance of Palestine and the ties of Zionists with America and our politics. That has been a major revelation for people. How much money the United States gives to Israel, nobody really understood that.”
"There has been a change in terms of the general public, but there are still positions in my industry that are held by Zionists who have not relaxed their feelings towards me," she concluded. "But I found my family, I found my people and I’m OK."
Sarandon was dropped by the major Hollywood talent agency UTA in late 2023 after speaking at a pro-Palestinian rally calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
