Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it shot down a US MQ-9 Reaper drone over the Strait of Hormuz, according to Iranian news agencies Fars and Mehr.
The IRGC said its air defenses intercepted “a long-range American MQ-9 drone” over the strategic waterway, after which the aircraft fell into the Gulf.
The claim comes as US-Iranian tensions have sharply escalated following a new exchange of attacks around the Strait of Hormuz. Recent US strikes targeted Iranian launchers on Larak Island, while Iran responded with missile attacks on US positions in Jordan.
The reported drone downing has not been independently confirmed. Similar claims by Iranian authorities over US MQ-9 drones have been reported previously during the war.
