Turkish man finds Russian missile debris at beach

A man in Sinop, Turkey, recently dragged a rusty, missile-shaped cylinder from the Black Sea and carried it across the beach.
The object has been identified as a spent first-stage booster from a Russian Pantsir-S1 surface-to-air missile, according to local media and open-source analysts.
Video footage circulating online shows the man retrieving the cylindrical debris from the water off Turkey’s northern Black Sea coast and hauling it ashore.

Preliminary assessments link it to the first-stage rocket motor (booster) of the 57E6 missile used by Russia’s Pantsir short-range air defense system.
This is not an isolated case. On June 2, residents near the Oluza locality of Bahçeli village in Sinop’s Ayancık district spotted a similar object floating in the sea and alerted emergency services via the 112 call center.
Turkish Coast Guard and gendarmerie units secured the area, cleared civilians, and removed the debris for examination.
Images indicated it was also the first-stage rocket motor of a 57E6 missile.
Turkish defense and open-source outlets described the June find in similar terms: the piece matched the initial-stage rocket motor of the Russian-made Pantsir system’s 57E6 surface-to-air missile.
Experts noted its distinctive cross-wound carbon-fiber/composite structure and foldable stabilizing fins as key identifying features.
The booster separates roughly 1.5–2 seconds after launch and carries no explosive warhead, reducing immediate risk once spent.
Analysts attribute the pattern to Black Sea currents—particularly the counterclockwise Rim Current—carrying lightweight composite remnants from launches near Crimea or Russian Black Sea positions over weeks or months.
The frequency of such finds over years points to intensive Russian air-defense activity against drones and missiles in the region since the full-scale war with Ukraine in 2022.
