Egyptian security forces rescued a man who livestreamed on Facebook while allegedly being held inside the back of a refrigerated truck following an abduction over a financial dispute, the Ministry of Interior announced on Monday, August 10.

Authorities initiated an immediate investigation after a video circulated on social media showing the man inside the truck, where he could be heard calling for help from security forces.

Abduction over financial dispute

According to the Ministry of Interior, the incident was formally reported on Monday when the owner of a food warehouse in Qalyubia informed police that his son, a student, had been kidnapped by two food merchants using a refrigerated pickup truck.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the kidnapping was triggered by a financial dispute involving the victim’s brother, who had allegedly obtained goods from the two merchants without paying for them.

Security forces located and arrested the two suspects—brothers residing in Shubra El-Kheima—along with the vehicle allegedly utilized in the abduction.

The kidnapped student was successfully rescued, and both suspects confessed during questioning to carrying out the abduction due to the financial dispute. The Ministry of Interior confirmed that legal procedures have been initiated against both suspects.
