Iran backs “any measure” taken by Palestinian leaders in Gaza talks, president says

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Tehran would support "any measure, initiative or decision" adopted by the Palestinian leadership during ongoing negotiations over Gaza, according to Iranian state media.

The comments came during a phone call with Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya, head of the group's political bureau, Iran's state broadcaster IRIB reported Wednesday.

According to IRIB, Pezeshkian praised al-Hayya's "role and leadership in coordinating the Palestinian factions."

The Iranian president said Iran would support "any measure, initiative or decision that the Palestinian leadership adopts during the course of the negotiations."

The remarks come amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to reach a lasting agreement in Gaza.

Last week, US President Donald Trump announced what he described as a historic agreement to secure the disarmament of Hamas and all other armed groups in the Gaza Strip, following an earlier US-brokered ceasefire.

Hamas has said it would only proceed with the proposal if ‘Israel’ halts its strikes on Gaza and withdraws its forces to the "yellow line" established under the October ceasefire agreement.

On Tuesday, ‘Israeli’ Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu commented publicly on Trump's announcement for the first time, saying the government is reviewing the proposal.

"We are examining it. They sent us a draft. We have not agreed to anything," Netanyahu said.
