Jordan's Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has signed an agreement with the Museum of the Bible in Washington, DC, to host the international exhibition "Jordan: Dawn of Christianity," highlighting the Kingdom's Christian heritage on the global stage.
The agreement was signed in the US capital by Jordan's ambassador to the United States, Dina Kawar, on behalf of the ministry, alongside Museum of the Bible President and CEO Carlos Campo.
According to the ministry, the exhibition will present Jordan as one of the birthplaces of Christianity through a collection of rare archaeological artifacts documenting nearly 2,000 years of Christian presence in the Kingdom.
The exhibition will feature Jordan's most significant Christian pilgrimage and archaeological sites, including the Baptism Site of Jesus Christ (Bethany Beyond the Jordan), a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well as Machaerus, Umm Qais, the churches of Rihab, the ancient church of Aqaba, the churches of Petra and Umm ar-Rasas, and Madaba's renowned mosaic heritage.
The exhibition is part of Jordan's preparations for the upcoming commemoration of the 2,000th anniversary of the baptism of Jesus Christ by John the Baptist, reinforcing the Baptism Site's status as a global destination for Christian pilgrimage.
The exhibition was previously showcased at the Vatican and in Assisi, Italy, and is scheduled to open in Washington during the first quarter of 2027.
