At least 14 people, including soldiers, police officers, and a civilian official, were killed and 24 others injured on Thursday night in a suicide vehicle bombing targeting a security post in Pakistan's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, security sources told the official state news agency of the People's Republic of China, Xinhua, on Friday.

The attack occurred in the Tank district when a suicide bomber detonated an explosive-laden vehicle at the facility.

The force of the explosion completely razed the security post to the ground and inflicted severe damage on the surrounding area.

Casualties, emergency response

According to security sources speaking on condition of anonymity, the dead include nine soldiers, four police personnel, and one official from the provincial forest department.

An additional 24 individuals -comprising 20 soldiers and four police officers- sustained injuries in the blast and were evacuated to nearby medical facilities for treatment.

Rescue teams remain active at the site conducting search and clearing operations, with three soldiers still believed to be trapped beneath the flattened post's rubble.

Security response, investigation

Following the initial explosion, security forces launched immediate clearance operations in the surrounding area, neutralizing three militants during subsequent engagements.

As of Friday, no group has claimed responsibility for the assault. An investigation into the planning and execution of the attack remains underway by Pakistani authorities.
